Selwyn’s dramatic landscape is waiting for you this summer. From sea to summit and everything in between, it’s all on your back doorstep. So take a breath of fresh air and prepare to appreciate Selwyn’s diverse landscapes.

PICK YOUR OWN

Nothing beats fresh berries at the family Christmas table. Thanks to Selwyn’s great weather and arable soils, the fruit and berry growers tend to have the best conditions to grow their delicious produce for you throughout summer. Why not take the family out to pick your own blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries? Check out Selwyn.nz to find the best summer goodness near you.

CAMPING

Camping is as Kiwi as chocolate fish! Selwyn has some wonderful camping spots next to gently flowing rivers, on the banks of lakes or right next to an 18-hole golf course. Many of the campgrounds allow you to take your fur babies – as long as they are well mannered – along with you. Camping is a great way to stay close to home while allowing you to escape the hustle and bustle of December madness.

 GARDENS

Beautifully cared for and lovingly created gardens are a joy to visit. Rhododendrons, azaleas, roses, and peonies are just some of the blooms you will see when visiting the numerous gardens open to visitors in Selwyn. Bring your wallet and make sure there is room in the car boot as many have plants for sale that you’ll come across growing in the garden. If you’re feeling peckish, perhaps book in for a lovely afternoon tea.

SUMMER DINING

Warmer and longer evenings – can you think of a better way to catch up with friends and family than a meal at your local eatery? Neither can we! Come check out Memories Café and Restaurant in Springston – it has seating inside and out, and they change the food options regularly, all while using local produce!

RAIL TRAIL

The Little River Rail Trail starts at Hornby and weaves its way through Selwyn, ending at Little River. The trail is great for all ages and can be cycled or walked. The gradient is easy, which makes it perfect for young children to take part. The trail will take you past wetlands, Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere, and up to Birdlings Flat, where you will see an abundance of wildlife. There are many other biking tracks in Selwyn to check out over the summer months.
