WOOL IS COOL

Spending your summer months luxuriating on wool sounds like a conflicting concept to some, but it is second nature to Amanda Dorset and the team behind Wilson & Dorset. With their ‘concept lounge’ located in Lake Wanaka, Wilson & Dorset designs and manufactures luxurious lounging pieces for your home, made from pure New Zealand sheepskin.

So why the push to utilise wool throughout summer? According to business owner Amanda, sheep’s wool is a remarkably resilient, highly breathable fibre that regulates temperature – keeping us cool in summer.

“In our family, the race is on after a hot day at the beach, to see who grabs the Shaggy Bean Bag first. It is quite amazing how cool and calming sheepskin is to lounge on. It makes sense given the sheep need to survive in the extreme highs of a New Zealand summer. We are just taking what nature has so cleverly designed, and we translate it for your home environment.”

New Zealand is known worldwide for its high-quality sheepskin. Wilson & Dorset has utilised this primary resource by developing a range of highly durable, versatile pieces, which are ultimately designed by nature. By using this sustainable resource, Wilson & Dorset is playing a small part in supporting our farming community.

A notable addition to the range is the ‘Stone Sets’, stackable sheepskin floor cushions that inhabit the space as you do. You can sit, rest your head, or put your feet up. These sheepskin ‘stones’ encourage you to re-imagine the way you lounge. The Wilson & Dorset Footstool is another defining stand out from the range – it’s a new take on a lounge room classic. The organic shape of the sheepskin ottoman is inspired by local river-stones, smoothed by the mighty waterways of our South Island. These are designed to fit your natural bends and curves, and the overall aesthetic is effortlessly minimalist and cool.

Wilson & Dorset represents a refreshing shift away from traditional static furniture systems.

“With our collection, we reconfigure living spaces by taking away hard edges to allow for easily portable pieces made from this incredible natural fibre. They will follow you from space to space, for your lifetime.”
