A LOCKDOWN LOVE

I was meant to get married in April 2020. That’s right, smack bang in the middle of a nationwide lockdown. Cue the tears. Not one to be upstaged by a pesky virus, we made the most of it and spent the evening dancing, laughing, and letting the wine flow in our decorated lounge. It was definitely a night to remember.

Our official wedding day became a very beautiful blessing in what was initially an anxiety-inducing disguise, and I’ve now become an advocate for intimate, low-key affairs.

We celebrated the day a couple of months post-lockdown with 17 of our closest family and friends. We got married in the local church chapel and headed out to our favourite restaurant, Francesca’s Italian Kitchen, for our dinner reception. This saved us a significant amount of money but more importantly, we were relaxed, we savoured every moment, and we were able to focus solely on ‘us’.

I still felt incredibly pampered during the day with my friend Tom at Balayage Hair styling my hair into beautiful soft glam waves and my youngest sister doing my makeup.

In fact, my family all played a special part in our day. Dad officiated the wedding, my brother walked me down the aisle, my brother-in-law captured the day on video, Mum helped me get ready, and both my sisters were bridesmaids.

If the current state of the world has taught us anything, it’s that the connections we have with our family and friends are what is most important.
