Community day at Te Pae

Cantabrians will get the chance to see through Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre during a Community Day on Sunday 17 July.

With Covid-19 gathering restrictions now relaxed, Te Pae Christchurch is in full swing, with a busy calendar of events, including this Community Day.

“We’re very proud of our new venue and have been looking forward to this opportunity to showcase it to locals,” says John Bridgman, the Chief Executive of Ōtākaro Limited, which has developed and owns Te Pae Christchurch.

“This mid-July weekend is the best opportunity we have had to throw open the doors to locals, and most weekends are busy through until December.

“While Te Pae Christchurch is a business events facility and will host visitors from here and around the world, it’s also a special place for local celebrations, expos, and other great events.”

As the Community Day is in the middle of the winter school holidays, the free event will have a booking system with entry staggered from 9am onwards.

“From the outside, you can see that Te Pae is a stunning venue with its flowing façade,” says John.

“Once inside, people are really impressed with the finishes. The 1400-seat auditorium, with its manta ray ceiling, really is the signature space of the venue.

“Many of the business events that will be staged here are in sectors where we have local strengths, so this will be a place where New Zealand’s best is presented to the world.

“It’s quite rare for a new, world-class business events facility to be located right in the heart of a city, within walking distance of the hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops that will benefit from the estimated $60m of additional local spending each year.

“So it’s not surprising that there is a lot of interest in staging events here, especially now that everyone is enjoying gathering in person again.”
