New hospice for Nurse Maude
Nurse Maude is building a new hospice for the people of Canterbury.
Every day of every year, Nurse Maude provides end-of-life care and support free of charge to patients and their families.
“And now we need to build a new hospice,” says Sue Sutherland of Nurse Maude, who is managing the fundraising to make it possible.
“For the past 14 years, the Nurse Maude Hospice has operated out of the ground floor of the old Nurse Maude Hospital, and, while the quality of care remains exceptional, it was never designed, or intended, for end-of-life care,” says Sutherland.
The new hospice, with dedicated areas for children and ensuite rooms with garden views, will also include family areas to eat and have a break.
“The cost of building a new hospice is around $10 million,” says Sutherland, “and thanks to some incredibly generous donors, we are already halfway there.”
